Consider the quail
Recently, I have started raising coturnix quail. I have found them easier then chickens in some ways. They hatch (fast) in 17 days. These birds are meat size or egg laying size in 6-8 weeks. Much faster meat cycle then most chickens and faster to egg laying size then any chicken I know of. Quail abo...

Re: Compost heat
In the YouTube video it looks like two people gathered a pile of leaf litter and material from the forest. The pile was maybe 6 x6 x 6 feet piled on top of a coiled hose. As water sat in the pile it was warmed... And as water passed through the hose it was warmed... So much so that cold water had to...

Compost heat
Have you seen the video on YouTube where the permaculture guys were using a compost pile to heat water for showers? Once you get the rain water collection thing set up and a large enought water tank it might be something to consider. I have also seen guy compost inside their green houses to extent t...

Re: Winter foraging for wild edibles - good survival trainin
Planting/transplanting wild edibles.
Has anyone made a "wild edible garden"?
Instead of continually having to forage... Why not cultivate native wild edibles near your home?

Solar tracker
A manual solar tracker is a must when you are pushing a small system to the limits.
I know you have been thinking about this... What are your thoughts for design?

Hail
If solar was my only means of power, I would consider having some sort of storm shutter to cover them. Around here the hail never gets bigg then about a half an inch. Somehting like a plastic greenhouse panel might afford some protection and still allow some light through, before and after the storm...

Orientation
Since you have a movable trailer... Have you thought about adjusting you trailer for the long side facing south in the winter for heat collection and a short side facing south in the summer to reduce heat gain in the summer. I would also consider a 1x2 framed in "sun room" covered with clear plastic...
